Prof. Antonio Leandro, new “Scientific Counsel” of BMV

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Prof. Antonio Leandro has joined the BMV team as "Scientific Counsel". 

Antonio is an Associate Professor of International Law at the University of Bari Aldo Moro with National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor. He is avvocato qualified to practice before the Italian Supreme Court. He gained a PhD in International Law at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’.

His main areas of specialization are Private International Law, International and European Investment Law, and International Law of the Sea.

Member of the Group of Experts on Restructuring and Insolvency Law and former member of the Group of Experts on European Freezing of Bank Accounts appointed by the DG Justice of the European Commission. He was invited to technical or scientific meetings convened by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UNCITRAL Secretariat, and the Presidency of the Council of the EU. He was a member of the Italian delegation at the 86th meeting of the Contact Points of the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial Matters. He contributed as a speaker or coordinator of study groups to the courses of the Italian School of Judiciary. He served as a trainer for the European Judicial Training Network, Institut de Formation Judiciaire, and Ecole Nationale de la Magistrature.

Scientific Advisor for the Italian Navy. Recognized by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Global Bankruptcy & Restructuring Lawyers for 2020.

Co-director of the Series Cultura giuridica e scambi internazionali (ESI). He sits in the editorial board of Rivista di diritto internazionale privato e processuale (Wolters Kluwer Italia), Rivista di diritto societario (Giappichelli), Conflict of Laws.net – News and Views in Private International Law, and in the Italian National Board of The European Legal Forum (IPR Verlag). Referee for Diritto del commercio internazionale (Giuffrè Francis Lefebvre). He was co-editor of the Commentaries on Private International Law, the newsletter of the Private International Law Interest Group of the American Society of International Law. He co-operated with the journal Guida al diritto, IlSole24ore, for commentaries on judgments of national courts, ECJ and ECHR (2005-2012).

He sits as a conferee by invitation in the Conference on European Restructuring and Insolvency Law. He is a member by invitation of the International Insolvency Institute. Other memberships include European Association of Private International Law, International Law Association, Italian Arbitration Association, Italian Association of Maritime Law, and Italian Society of International and European Union Law. He was a member of the American Society of International Law. He joined CONISMA Consortium (“Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Scienze del Mare”).

Speaker at many conferences in Italy and abroad. He joined or coordinated many scientific national and international projects. Author of three monographs and some 200 papers among journal articles, book chapters, and notes on newspapers and blogs.
